The Design
“Cuddly bunnies.”
As we were knitting this wee pair of adorably embellished Family Slippers, we were dreaming of knitting a grown-up pair for ourselves! We’ve added a cute pair of bunny ears and a fluffy, pom-pom tail to our easy slippers—a playful twist to this free pattern!
The Family Bunny Slippers were knit with Big Bad Wool held double. Soft and warm, yet nicely resilient, light worsted-weight Weepaca—a half-and-half blend of merino and baby alpaca—makes a wonderfully cuddly pair of bunnies. Knit a pair for each member of your family (our pattern is written in three adjustable sizes)!
The Details
FINISHED SIZES
Small: 6½"/16.5cm length, fits up to 8½"/22cm foot; with 2 1/2"/6.5cm long ears.
Medium: 8"/20cm length, fits up to 10"/25cm foot; with 3 1/2"/9cm long ears.
Large: 9½"/24cm length, fits up to 11½"/29cm foot; with 3 1/2"/9cm long ears.
Note: These slippers actually fit a wide range of sizes but the more they stretch to fit, the better they stay on! If you’d like to adjust the length, the heel should be about two-thirds of the total length and the toe about one-third.
Directions given for small size; medium and large sizes in parentheses ( ).
YARN
2 (3, 4) skeins (95 yds/87m each).
Or approx. 180 (240, 340)yds / 165 (220, 311)m of a medium
or heavy worsted-weight yarn.
Note: Yarn is held double throughout, so you can mix colors and yarns.
Sample shown: size small on color Linen.
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 9 (5.5mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge.
Blunt darning needle to finish.
2 stitch markers.
Small: 1 3/8"/33mm
Medium & Large: 1 5/8"/45mm pom-pom maker
GAUGE
Approx. 16 sts = 4"/10cm in garter stitch.
KNITTER'S NOTES
Using this yarn held doubled can be tough on your wrist, so I found it easier to take your right needle and open up the stitch before knitting.
